Fine-grit paper texture you can feel through the nib.
Tooth is the paper-side contribution to feel: the slight grain of an uncoated sheet that a fine nib telegraphs to your fingers. Toothy paper grips the tipping; glassy paper (Rhodia, Clairefontaine) lets it skate.
Neither is right — sketchers often want tooth, letter-writers usually want glass. Match the pair, not the parts.
