Vacuum filler
A plunger creates a vacuum that snaps ink into the barrel.
A vacuum filler uses a plunger: pull the rod up, plunge it down, and as the seal passes a widened section of the barrel the vacuum breaks and ink rushes in — one satisfying thunk, most of a barrel filled.
You get near-eyedropper capacity with a proper mechanism and (usually) a shut-off valve for flying. The Pilot Custom 823 and TWSBI Vac700R are the standard bearers.
